Accessibility Statement

Last updated 26 September 2026

Our commitment

Wooden Bakery is a small bakery on Mill Street NE, and we want the website to be as easy to walk into as the shop itself. We are working to make this site usable for everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, rely on captions, or need larger text and stronger contrast.

The standard we work to

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines are the widely accepted benchmark for making web content easier to perceive, operate and understand. We treat them as a target we are actively working towards rather than a badge we have already earned, and we keep testing as the site changes.

What we have built in

  • A “skip to content” link so keyboard users can jump straight past the navigation.
  • Visible focus outlines on every link, button and form field, so it is always clear where you are on the page.
  • Meaningful alternative text on photographs of our food and our shop.
  • Headings used in a logical order, so screen reader users can navigate the page by structure.
  • Color combinations chosen and checked for contrast against the page background.
  • Respect for your system’s “reduce motion” setting. If you have asked your device to limit animation, the moving elements on this site hold still.
  • A layout that reflows for small screens and continues to work when text is enlarged.

Known limitations

We want to be straightforward about the gaps rather than claim the site is perfect.

  • Online ordering. Orders are taken on Square, and delivery orders on Uber Eats and DoorDash. Those checkout experiences are built and controlled by those companies, not by us, so we cannot guarantee their accessibility. If you hit a barrier there, please call us and we will take your order over the phone.
  • Maps. Directions are provided through Google Maps, which is a third-party service. Our address is also written out in plain text on the page so you never need the map to find us.
  • Photography. Some older product photographs may have shorter alternative text than we would like. We are improving these as we replace the images.

Ordering by phone

If any part of this website or the online ordering system gets in your way, you can always order by calling (703) 242-9296 during opening hours (Monday to Thursday 10am to 6pm, Friday to Sunday 9am to 6pm). We are happy to read the menu to you, describe any dish, and take the order directly.

Telling us about a problem

If you run into something on this site that you cannot use, we would genuinely like to hear about it. It is the fastest way for us to find and fix real problems.

It helps if you can tell us the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what browser or assistive technology you were using. We aim to reply within five business days, and we will tell you honestly how long a fix is likely to take.
